Uncover Momentum Hour [Part 2 Things High Achieving Women Do on the Daily Series]
Uncovering your momentum hour is an absolute game changer for productivity.
Welcome to part 2 of this blog post series that is covering the things high achieving women do on the daily. This week’s blog is going to highlight uncovering your momentum hour, discovering what exactly momentum is and funny enough how I came up with the title of this blog as well as my podcast! My friend Heidi told me this.. “The definition of momentum is to decrease the things that hold you back and increase the things that move you forward.” This may sound familiar to you, if you have listened to episodes of my Momentum Restart® Podcast. This phrase is tried and true for us. But, truly, that is momentum.. When we get the things holding us back out of our way whether they are in our mind or they are external, and we increase the things that are going to make the path in front of us least resistant.
My husband, Mike, is currently training for his first full Ironman triathlon. If you're not familiar with what that is, it is a long, long distance triathlon consisting of 2.4 miles swim, 112 miles biking, followed by a marathon 26.22 mile run in one day. He really loves doing triathlons and some of his races, his goal is to win an age group race and others his goal is to beat a personal best. In order for him to have the most effective race, these athletes need to be diligent in exactly what food or drink they will consume on race day, and what time they will be having the food and drink in order to ensure that their body will be nourished for the entire day. Some things that Mike has prioritized for his race include shaving his legs to cut back on drag on the bike and he has saved up over time for new race wheels that are going to increase his speed. Ultimately, all of these decisions that Mike has made are helping him decrease the things that are going to hold him back in that race, like leg hair apparently?! And increasing the things that will move him forward, like the proper fuel at the proper time!
When done well, momentum happens in the best way. The same is true for your business. When you are able to decrease the things that hold you back and increase the things that move you forward, you will have momentum. Remember, momentum does not mean push, it doesn’t mean fast. It means consistent, constant movement. Sometimes that movement may look slow and other times it may be quick, but it is always moving. It is forward focused. It is growing. As a business owner, raise your hand if you can relate, if having momentum and consistently moving forward is an incredibly refining feeling. To me, it is as refining as parenting. When you own your own business, every level you reach, new struggles are going to pop up, new fears will appear that you will have to work through. A new skill that you have to learn will pop up. It is constant growth. I resonate with this. Entrepreneurs, high achieving women, we love growth. We love the feeling of growth, of learning a new skill, of having a new challenge. It does not feel good all of the time, but I love recognizing what those mindset struggles or setbacks are, because they are going to be there either way. I can either work on them, or I am going to let them drag me down along the way. This works in your advantage, when you work with your body instead of against it.
If you have had the opportunity to listen to my Momentum Restart® Podcast, you may have heard a few episodes highlighting some interviews with Annalise and Renee. We have covered topics including how important it is to listen to your cycle and how to match that with your body. Today we are going to drill even further and focus on your hour. Your momentum hour. When you honor your rest time and you make the most of your work time, you are going to experience some amazing growth in a way that feels so free. When you are aware of what time of day you work best, you get relief because you don’t have to constantly push anymore. You have freedom. You have flexibility. Through that, you are going to have growth because you will have the opportunity for momentum. You will have decreased the things that hold you back and you will increase the things that move you forward when you focus on your momentum hour.
A client of mine who just went through Momentum Restart® Coaching, and I rearranged her schedule so that she could have more time for her and her family. She was working insane hours. We have all been there. She is amazing at her job and she loves to serve her clients well and after years of hustling, she has built this incredibly success business. But, now she was realizing this schedule is just not sustainable. She wanted to make some shifts so that she could have some time back, but she did not want to stop her business growth. We began by pinpointing her momentum hour. Her momentum hour, like mine, is opposite of what society says we should be when we are productive. Now, yours is going to be unique to you. It will not be the same as mine or hers. Digging in and discovering yours will feel freeing. For so long, this client felt like it was a bad thing to be working in the evening, when she felt most productive. The moment that I reminded her that she is the business owner and she gets to decide when she works, instant relief poured over her face. You get to decide when you want to work. You get to be in charge.
Let’s set up your life and your business in a way that works for you. We can make this work in a way that honors your family and your values. As mentioned in last week’s blog post, focused on defining success. You have got to know what your values are and what defining success looks like for you first. You can then take your momentum hour and set it up to be focused around those. This is going to give you relief and will allow you to work with your body’s natural rhythms. In doing so, you are going to experience much more momentum and freedom. It is going to decrease the things that hold you back, like maybe external expectations that you may have around when you should be working and how much you should be working, and it is going to increase the things that move you forward, like honoring your personal uniqueness. The things that light you up and push you toward the list that you want.
In Momentum Restart® Accelerator the CEO Accelerator you will begin with determining what success means to you, like we covered in last week’s blog. To help you get started with this, be sure to grab your free mini journal here today. Today’s assignment is on page 7, in your free mini journal, uncovering your momentum hour. Again, I encourage you to really set time apart for yourself while doing this. Breathe into this and honor who you are and want to be when you are working.
Let me put a disclaimer here.. Anyone who knows me should know this by now. I am a hard worker. You’re a hard worker. Now, that doesn’t mean that running a business is going to be easy, but it does mean that we are taking away the things that don’t necessarily need to be there. The things that are standing in our way to allow things to move more freely. We are still going to need to do the hard things, but why not make the path for those hard things easier. We are allowed to take control of what we can. That is finding your momentum hour.
These are the practices that we are going through this month in the series of four things that high achieving women do on the daily. Last week, we talked about starting with your values and strategizing around those values. Today, you are pinpointing your momentum hours, so that you can plan your schedule in a way that honors it. Remember that this month's blog posts are for you, the women who run the world and need a little bit of support. It's for CEOs, who know that you need personal growth and self-care as key parts to your success. You love personal growth because you know that every level of growth allows everything to feel better.
Over the next few weeks, we're going to dive into the last two things that high achieving women do on the daily. Next week, we will be getting ridiculously specific on what you do. In the meantime, print out your mini journal. You can head to coachamberb.com, find the four things that high achieving women do on the daily, or message me on Instagram and I'll make sure to send it to you. I want to see when your momentum hour is. I can’t wait to connect next week when we dive into getting ridiculously specific on what you do.
